RESEARCH & EDUCATION
A practice rooted in curiosity, critical observation, and the sharing of knowledge. I explore the intersections of the man-made environment and creative making, facilitating spaces where others can engage with their surroundings in meaningful and creative ways.
Research: Material Studies & Fibre Art
Form & Structure: My research begins with the observation of the built environment. I deconstruct industrial and architectural forms to their most basic elements, stripping away the 'harshness' to reveal the core geometry.
Tactile Rebuilding: Using fibre arts and hand-stitched motifs, I rebuild these forms with physical, sustainable materials. This process turns rigid, functional shapes into soft, tactile studies that invite a closer look at our everyday surroundings.
Material Integrity: Investigating how traditional craft techniques can translate architectural scale into intimate, human-centred objects, focusing on the honest textures of jute, linen, and cotton.
Education: Facilitation & Visual guidance
Workshop Design: Developing and leading creative programmes for cultural institutions (e.g. V&A Dundee.) I prioritise creating accessible entry points for design, helping participants engage with materials and process over final 'perfection.'
Digital Tools: Translating complex concepts (from modular print systems to educational software) into clear, visual narratives. I’m interested in how digital tools can connect to materials and processes and how designing digitally can connect to tangible objects.
Guided Inquiry: Leading tours and mentorship sessions that encourage a mindset of curiosity. My goal is to provide the tools and confidence to develop their own ways of looking.
Editorial: Documentation & Photo Studies
Visual Recording: A systematic approach to documenting the 'functional present.' Through photo studies and observational writing, I record the industrial and modernist influences that shape our modern landscape.
Process Transparency: Sharing the journey from initial sketch to final production. I use editorial content to demystify the design process, providing context for projects and fostering a deeper appreciation for the utilitarian beauty of our environment.
Collaborative Dialogue: Connecting with international designers and heritage specialists to document and discuss the evolving role of the maker in a digital and industrial age.
